CausewayHealth

A cross-border clinical corridor

Specialist surgical care, across borders, without the patient leaving home.

Causeway connects patients and treating clinicians with the right surgeon, in the UAE, the UK or the US, for an initial or a second opinion, a secure video consultation, and coordinated care through the whole episode. Expertise travels. The patient's record, and their identity, stay in-country and encrypted.

What Causeway is

A causeway is a road built across water, anchored at both ends, carrying traffic both ways. Causeway Health is the same idea for clinical care: a standing corridor that moves specialist knowledge to the patient rather than moving the patient to the knowledge, keeps their care anchored to a home clinician on both sides of any border, and carries expertise in both directions, including surgical fellowship and training.

Ways in

01

Initial opinion

A patient describes their condition, shares records and imaging, and receives an assessment directly from a verified specialist, before any surgery is on the table.

Patient to surgeon
02

Second opinion

A treating clinician refers a case to a consulting surgeon for an independent view, agree, disagree, or ask for more, on a proposed plan.

Clinician to surgeon
03

Video consultation

A scheduled, secure telehealth session between patient and surgeon, held inside the platform, with calendar invites, reminders, and the case record alongside.

Telehealth
04

Coordinated corridor

When care crosses a border, the episode is coordinated end to end, referral, opinion, decision, treatment, and follow-up, with one longitudinal record and a home clinician who stays accountable throughout.

Anchored episode

The corridor

One corridor. Care at home, expertise worldwide.

A patient in the UAE reaches a sub-specialist in London or New York in days, not flights. The consultation, imaging, opinion and payment run on one governed rail — while the record and identity stay in-country and encrypted.

How a case moves

01

Open

A patient or treating clinician opens a case and chooses a specialist. Identifying details are captured and encrypted at rest, held in-country, never sent across the border.

02

De-identify

Imaging is stripped of identifying tags and metadata. What reaches the consulting surgeon is a pseudonymous case: age, anatomy, findings, and the question being asked.

03

Opine & consult

The surgeon reviews, returns a written opinion, and, where useful, meets the patient by secure video, linked to the case and coordinated by the home clinician.

The anchor: care that stays home while expertise travels.

A second opinion is a single event. Real care is the episode around it. Causeway keeps the patient anchored to a home clinician for the whole journey, so the specialist advises, but the patient is never handed off and lost.

That is what separates a corridor from a one-off consult, and it is what prevents the classic failure of medical travel: an opinion abroad, a procedure, and then no one who owns the complication at week six.

Telehealth, built in, not bolted on.

Consultations happen inside Causeway, so the video call, the case, the imaging, the messages and the payment are one governed workflow, not a link emailed out to a consumer app.

Surgeons propose a time; patients confirm; both get reminders and a calendar invite; the join opens at the slot.

  • Embedded, private video rooms, one per case
  • Surgeon-proposed scheduling with patient confirmation
  • Email and WhatsApp reminders, calendar invites
  • Per-case secure messaging and permanent case notes
  • Self-pay checkout for uninsured or cross-border consults

The identity firewall

Identified · stays in the UAE
  • Patient name
  • Emirates ID
  • Date of birth
  • Contact details
Never transmitted
Pseudonymous · shareable
  • Case reference (opaque)
  • Age, sex, laterality
  • Clinical summary & imaging
  • Question for opinion

Identity and clinical data live in separate encrypted stores. The consulting surgeon's view has no path to the left-hand column, the wall is enforced in the data model, not just the interface. Cross-border routing is gated on explicit, recorded patient consent, and built to align with UAE DOH and PDPL data-handling requirements.
